In the year 2001, there were 3 good friends, namely: Grethel, Arlene, and Kristina. They are immigrants from the Philippines working as nurses in the State of Connecticut. They wondered "why there was no single Filipino food store available in Connecticut". As nurses so far away from home trying to earn a living in a distant land, they could not help but miss their food markets, friends, families and their mother's cooking. They had the need to keep in touch with their Filipino way to living and get nourishment from their Filipino native food which is crucial for their well being while serving the people of the privileged country, United State of America. That year on the month of May it made them open GAK PILIPINAS FILIPINO FOOD STORE, GAK stands for Grethel, Arlene and Kristina, a store that specializes in foods imported from the Philippines. When it was opened not only did the 3 good friends felt pleased and content but also individual Filipinos and families were grateful that they have a place to go and to call their own.
